There's something refreshing about the first meeting of a new Rotary year.
No projects have officially launched yet.
No events have filled the calendar.
No volunteer days have arrived.
Instead, there's something even more exciting.
Possibility.
That was the feeling as the Rotary Club of Placentia gathered for its first meeting of the 2026–2027 Rotary year, officially kicking off a new chapter of leadership, service, and collaboration.
With Alex Muolo leading his first meeting as Club President, the energy in the room was focused less on looking back and more on everything waiting to be accomplished together.
The first meeting of the year isn't about ceremony.
It's where the work begins.
As members settled in, conversations quickly turned into plans. Board positions were confirmed, committee assignments were finalized, and event chairs stepped forward to lead many of the projects that will keep the club busy throughout the coming year.
It's easy to see the finished product when Rotary hosts a community event or service project.
What often goes unseen are meetings like this one where ideas are shared, responsibilities are accepted, and volunteers begin laying the groundwork for everything that's still to come.
Every successful project starts somewhere.
For Rotary, it starts around a table with people asking one simple question: "How can I help?"
Although this meeting marked Alex Muolo's first official meeting as Club President, one thing became clear almost immediately.
Rotary leadership has never been about one person.
As members volunteered for committees and accepted new responsibilities, the room reflected what makes Rotary so special. Everyone has something to contribute, and everyone plays a role in helping the club fulfill its mission of Service Above Self.
Watching members step into new leadership roles wasn't just encouraging—it was a reminder that meaningful community service is always a team effort.
Before looking too far ahead, the club paused to recognize someone whose commitment has already made a lasting impact.
Mychal Redman was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow, Rotary's highest recognition for service and generosity.
The applause that followed wasn't simply for an award.
It was for years of dedication, quiet leadership, and a continued commitment to serving others.
Moments like these remind us that while Rotary is always planning for the future, it also takes time to recognize the people whose service continues to inspire those around them.
By the end of the meeting, calendars were beginning to fill, committees had their direction, and new ideas were already taking shape.
While the community may not see those plans just yet, they're already in motion.
Over the coming months, those conversations will become service projects, local events, partnerships, and opportunities to make a meaningful difference throughout Placentia and Orange County.
That's what makes the first meeting of the Rotary year so important.
It isn't about what has already been accomplished.
It's about what becomes possible when people come together with a shared purpose.
As another Rotary year begins, there's a genuine sense of excitement for what's ahead. Here's to another year of friendship, collaboration, and serving our community—one project at a time.
